Smocking Plates- a/k/a smocking designs/design plates/smocking patterns - are patterns to follow when creating the smocking design of your choice on your pleated piece of fabric. Printed on paper, these patterns give you a printed graph to follow, as well as written instructions and a picture of how the design will look once it’s smocked.

NOTE: You can use almost any geometric design on both bishop & yoke garments, particularly if they are not inserts. The pointed borders look beautiful hanging from the yoke toward the skirt. In a Bishop design (if your pattern has enough pleats), you can use small stacked figures. Be sure to leave ample pleats between the figures.
