"The Circuit Rider's Quilt"
Come rider with us..on the circuit that is, as we make our version of this early album-style quilt that was made to pay homage to Reverend Warvel of Ohio. A circuit rider was an itinerant preacher who traveled the Germantown circuit in Eastern Ohio. From 1760 to the mid 1800's these preachers traveled by horseback spreading the gospel to early settlers from the East to the Midwest. The quilt featured in this book was made by women from his circuit in Ohio. The book features this quilt, now housed at the Art Institute of Chicago, includes 42 appliquéd album style blocks plus original patterns for other quilts and smaller projects based on these beautiful and timeless blocks. You'll also enjoy reading the history on other Circuit Riders. 120 page book $26.95.
Purchase the book then sign up for auto-ship each month for $5 + s/h; we will kit one of the easy 10" appliqué blocks (12" block finished) with reproduction style fabric and cream background fabric. Use your favorite method of appliqué; at the end of a year you will have made 12 blocks that you can finish into a quilt using ideas from the book, or continue making more blocks from the book. You will have fabric left each month to make more blocks and you would need additional background fabric. This BOM starts February 14, 2009 and ends January 9, 2010.
