Classes & Clubs


Marti and Me Club

On the 1st Thurs of each month club members gather in the shop's classroom for a lecture/demo style class featuring a different Marti Michell tool or template set. Club leader, Barb Eikmeier, presents the pattern of the month and shows at least one sample project from the pattern plus a sampler block that uses the featured tool. Show and tell, door prizes and Barb's tips and tricks add to the fun.

You may join at any time since each lesson stands alone. You choose the class that fits your schedule Membership is $30 for the 6 month Feb to July schedule. NOTE: No May meeting.

Featured products (patterns, tools and kits) are priced separately so participants can purchase only what they want and purchase is always optional. Members enjoy a 20% discount (club day only) on any product demonstrated that month.

Twilling

Twilling is an old-fashioned stitch that adds a lot of elegance to any project. It is very easy to do and also very addictive. Once you learn the technique the possibilities for embellishing quilts are endless. We are offering this one hour class on different days to accommodate any and all schedules!

Hunter's Star Workshop

Have you always wanted to try the Hunter's Star but thought it looked challenging and time consuming, that's what I thought, until now. I'd love to share with you this wonderful technique using the Rapid Fire Hunter's Star tool. The instructions are easy to follow and with this tool your block will come out with perfect points and seam allowances.

Brazilian Embroidery

Learn some new techniques using the beautiful EdMar Rayon embroidery floss. This class will get you started making a Nine Flower Sampler. Using floss and needles provided in the kit and with just eight basic embroidery stitches - some you probably already know and some fun new ones, we'll work on creating beautiful flower arrangements with this lovely floss.

Sew Day

It's a "Work" party! We are holding Sew Day on the third Wednesday of each month. Bring your machine and current project to work on. A day spent with quilting friends will improve your outlook on life! Be sure to sign up as although our classroom is large, we won't overfill it.

Back Basting Applique

This is your opportunity to learn Back Basting Applique from Barb. In this technique class students will begin a small wall hanging. The design is transferred and stitched on the wrong side of the background fabric and basted from the back then needle turn appliquéd to finish the front. This is a very portable appliqué method. Class is one 2 hour session.

Crazy Quilt Club

We are nearing the finish line on our Crazy Quilt Blocks! The kits for block 9 will be available and we will be discussing some stitching/embellishing possibilities and practice some crazy quilt stitches.

Quilt Camp

Three full days of sewing – just think how much you can accomplish in that time! Each day begins at 9:30, on Thursday we will sew until 7:00 pm. Friday we will stop at midnight (unless you decide to fold earlier) and finish up by 4:00 pm on Saturday. Bring snacks to share and your sewing projects. In order to keep it as economical as possible, we will ONLY provide the Friday evening meal. Feel free to bring a sack lunch or there are a number of restaurants nearby that you can go to, or order a take out meal to bring back

Hand Piecing - Star a Day

Hand Piecing is a great way to piece small blocks, tricky curves, or just because you want a portable project. We will learn several tricks to make hand piecing accurate and the proper way to start and finish seams.

English Paper Piecing

Suddenly, hand work is the "In Thing"! The best part is it is so portable. These small pieces can go almost anywhere with you. Christina and Kaye are starting a new project based on the Lucy Boston "Patchwork of the Crosses" quilt. We will be using 1" elongated hexagons and the Sue Daley method of English Paper Piecing. Join us for the class, the technique will work with any of the English Paper Piecing templates.

Late Night at QB&P
Spend a Friday night sewing, snacking and visiting with other quilters. This is one of our most popular events and we always have a great time while accomplishing a lot of quilting. Bring your current quilting projects and a snack to share. This is a great opportunity to get in some quality quilting time while enjoying the fellowship of other quilters.

Just the Basics Please
With the beginner in mind, learn precision basic rotary cutting, simple strip piecing, half-square triangles, sewing accurate quarter inch seams, machine piecing and pressing skills. This class is loaded with information you never knew you needed to know.

Beginning Hand Quilting

This is a beginning class teaching the fundamentals of Hand quilting. I will cover the techniques of how to start and stop, marking the quilt top, and batting choices. We will review the different types of thimbles and the pros and cons of each type. We will also cover the different sizes of quilting needles and you will be able to play with them to see which one fits your style the best. Then, we will practice making nice, even, consistent stitches. If you have a favorite thimble or hoop, please bring it along with a pair of small scissors for snipping threads. I will make up “kits” so you will not need to bring anything else.

Star A Day Reunion

If you are doing on the Star a Day Challenge, Come with your stars. We will have fun looking at all the cute little stars and maybe even stitch another one while we are here. No Charge, just come in and introduce us to your little stars.
