Hand Piecing

Hand Piecing is a great way to piece small blocks, tricky curves, or just because you want a portable project. We have a number of different patterns that we use this method of hand piecing rather than using paper pieces and find it much gentler on your hands. Our Star a Day Challenge, the Lucy Boston Quilt, Hexagons and more -- did you know they can be done easily WITHOUT paper piecing or a machine? We will learn several tricks to make hand piecing accurate and the proper way to start and finish seams.

Needle Tatting

This is not the way your grandmother tatted -- it is MUCH EASIER! You can learn how to needle tat and be comfortable with reading the patterns, yes even grandma's shuttle patterns can be used and the outcome is just the same. A great way to make beautiful trims for crazy quilt blocks or edge a candle mat.

Beginning Hand Quilting

This is a beginning class teaching the fundamentals of Hand quilting. We will cover the techniques of how to start and stop, marking the quilt top, and batting choices. We will review the different types of thimbles and the pros and cons of each type. We will also cover the different sizes of quilting needles and you will be able to play with them to see which one fits your style the best. Then, we will practice making nice, even, consistent stitches. If you have a favorite thimble or hoop, please bring it along with a pair of small scissors for snipping threads. We will provide a "fabric sandwich" kit so you will not need to bring anything else.
