Advanced Techniques for Needle Turn Applique

Continue needle turn applique with confidence! Paula will lead you through a few more techniques to enhance your needle turn applique experience. You will learn how to sew the perfect skinny stems, reverse applique, and how to build your applique layer while creating this beautiful rose designed by Paula. She will also share her tips and tricks for success along the way.

1. Pins - silk pins or Sequin pins or Pearl headed applique pins

2. Needles - a long thin applique Milliner or Straw needle such as Sue Daley or Foxglove brand (I prefer a size 11 needle)

3. Needle Threader and Thimble

4. Thread - to match the appliqué pieces, 50/2 or 80 wt Aurifil or YLI Silk thread or DMC

5. Inexpensive cotton neutral thread and needle (a sharps needle size 8) for basting

6. Scissors - small, sharp, cut to the point - One for paper, One for fabric

7. Marking Pencils - mechanical pencil
Assorted pencils that will show up on different fabric:
Water soluble blue Mark-B-Gone pen for marking back ground (or) Frixion Blue pen (do not use red, yellow or orange colors)

8. Fabric - Pre-washed and ironed before class

12x12 neutral background (recommend Sandy Solids by Sandy Gervais #1836 can be purchased at the shop)

Assorted greens for leaves and stems

Assorted fabrics for the rose

9. Freezer paper-Reynolds or Kim Diehl paper for tracing templates

10. Mini iron and small ironing board, Extension cord

11. Ott Light (optional)
